Gateway shoppers are in for an unforgettable experience during October and November, when ten of South Africa’s top celebrities take part in the fourth edition of Gateway’s Celebrity Chef Showdown, at six of Gateway’s most popular restaurants.

The celebrity line-up this year includes, popular South African actress, television presenter and model, Shashi Naidoo; radio and television personality, Randall Abrahams; Mrs Universe finalist and Mrs South Africa, Aldytha Da Silva; East Coast Radio’s Breakfast team vs the Drive Team; award winning investigative journalists for Carte Blanche, Devi Sankaree Govender and Bongani Bingwa; Front man for The Parlotones and now also solo artist, Kahn Morbee, model and TV personality Vanessa Marawa, as well as Durban’s very own award winning alternative rock band, Gangs of Ballet. The series of events will be hosted by none other than charismatic TV and media personality, Terrence Pillay!

The public are invited to make bookings to attend any of the six evenings to enjoy a night of good food, entertainment and healthy competition. On each of the restaurant’s evenings, the meals prepared by the celebrities will be in line with the restaurants normal menu offering. Times are 18h30 for 19h00 at R180 per person for a set menu which includes; a starter, main and dessert.

The line-up is as follows:

Wed 26 October - ECR Breakfast Team (Sky Tshabalala & Keri Miller) vs. ECR Drive Team (Zaba Simbine & Gareth Jenkinson): John Dory’s

Wed 02 November – Aldytha da Silva vs. Kahn Morbee: Hussar Grill

Wed 09 November – Devi Sankaree Govender vs. Bongani Bingwa: Ebb & Flo

Wed 16 November – Randall Abrahams vs. Vanessa Marawa: Circus Circus

Wed 23 November – Gangs of Ballet vs. Shashi Naidoo: Cape Town Fish Market

All winning celebs will take part in a final showdown which will be held on 30 November at Beluga.

Each celebrity that competes will select a local charity of their choice at the start of the campaign. 10% of the income generated through these events will be donated to the winning celebrity’s charity of choice. To book your seat, please contact your selected restaurant.

Guests attending the events stand a chance of winning a brand new 60cm freestanding ELBA cooker, valued at R14,000 and other great prizes!

About the host and MC, Terence Pillay

Terence is a well-known radio & television personality. He’s a published print journalist and columnist, and has spent years building relationships with celebrities both in South Africa, Africa and abroad. Moving from a presenter in front of the camera on shows like KZN2Nite, Good Morning South Africa, Impressions, Free Spirit, Your Good Health, Front Row, and more recently Glow TV’s “Food For Living” host, this charismatic mic smith has in the last seven years taken on the airwaves at East Coast Radio in Durban.

His big-name, one-on-one interviews have garnered critical acclaim and includes: Claire Danes (Oscar Award Winning Actress), Enrique Iglesias (Grammy Award Winning singer), Hillary Swank (Oscar Award Winning actress), John Cleese (actor), Eddie Grant (reggae musician), Westlife (British Boy Band), Joe Cocker (musician) , Howie Mandel (US TV personality), Ainsley Harriet (BBC Chef), Rachel Allen (BBC Chef), Candice Swanepoel (Victoria Secret supermodel) and a slew of South African stars, which include the likes of Ty Keogh, Sandi Schultz, Elvis Blue, Hykie Berg, Michael Mol, Arno Carstens and Jason Hartman.

The print titles that Pillay freelances for include: a column in The Sunday Tribune as well as the food, travel and lifestyle pages of SM in the Tribune, Food and Home, Horizons, Prive, Getaway Magazine and The Mercury. He is a published contributing author of a book called Durban in a Word and has been featured in Peter Machen’s book Durban – A Paradise and it’s People as well as Mital Shah’s coffee table book, Well Souled.
