Icons Of The 80's

The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway is spanning back three decades to a time best remembered for its music and forgotten for its fashion, with Icons Of The 80's from 26 June to 12 August!

Audiences can get ready to experience the explosive music scene from the decade that produced the most significant, the most daring, and the most controversial icons - yes, we are talking about the Icons Of The 80's! Featuring a 12-piece cast, this funky production revisits those pop stars that made their mark on musical history with outrageous fashion statements, catchy hit songs and some saucy dance moves.

This is a decade in which Michael Jackson launched his Thriller album; Madonna performed Like a Virgin for the first time on MTV; Cyndi Lauper knew that Girls Just Wanna Have Fun; the Eurythmics wanted Sweet Dreams; and Brit Pop ruled the airwaves with boy band Wham!.

The 80's also featured rock from iconic groups like U2, Bon Jovi, Dire Straits and INXS. We were spoilt with the gritty talents of Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, Bonnie Tyler and Bryan Adams, and also were treated to the silky smooth voices of Lionel Ritchie and Diana Ross with the epic ballad Endless Love. Janet Jackson and Prince added the funk, and we celebrated the biggest iconic gathering when they convened to record We are the World.

These icons were no ordinary performers and all made their mark in rock history with music, image and fashion. Relive the eighties with the icons that will bring back the memories of songs that created the best days of our lives! So, dust off your neon garb, your legwarmers and your Madonna sandals, and get ready for an awesome 80's party!

Tickets are R135 per person from Wednesday to Saturday, with discounted specials of R100 per person every Tuesday night and Sunday matinee show For bookings and enquiries, phone The Barnyard Theatre on 031 - 566 3045, e-mail gateway@barnyardtheatres.co.za or visit or visit www.barnyardtheatres.co.za for more information.

Get Your Slippers Ready GATEWAY…

'Reach For Your Slippers' Goes National!

            Friday 3rd August 2012

Last year we managed to raise R175, 000 to make dreams come true for children suffering from life-threatening illnesses across KZN and Gateway Stores were a big part of this. All we had to do was wear our slippers to work for the day!

This year… the whole of South Africa will be involved as we take slipper day national! Each of the 7 Reach For A Dream offices across the country will be working with schools, companies, businesses and individuals in their areas to get more people into slippers this year than ever before!

We are so proud that this all began in KZN and are working with Gateway Theatre of Shopping again this year to make it even bigger and better. There will be events taking place in the mall in the weeks leading up to, and on, slipper day as well of lots of media attention. WE WANT YOU AND YOUR STAFF TO BE A PART OF IT so get your slippers ready…imagine the whole of Gateway in their slippers for the day!

Please put the date firmly into your diaries and email Prkzn@reachforadream.org.za to show you are on board. I will then be sure to send you details of how and where to get your slipper stickers (R10 each).

There are so many children out there still dreaming and we want to make sure we reach as many as possible to make their dreams a reality. Help us to reach our own dream of raising at least R200, 000 this year for the KZN region.
