Valentines Weekend Activities

Newly engaged couple Mawanda Maphumulo and Nqobile Mabaso celebrate all things Valentine’s.

Gateway Theatre of Shopping wants to help its shoppers to share their love as safely and widely as possible this Valentine’s Day. Cupid has been busy at the mall, making it a place bursting with love.

Social distancing, masks, sanitising, and restrictions during the past year have made us find new ways to express our love for family, friends, partners, and our new besties – our neighbours!

Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to consider the people who mean the most to us, and to find ways to express our love for them. Whether they know it, or not!

Gateway Theatre of Shopping is sharing the love, through safe experiences at the mall, or encouraging shoppers to create their own loving experience at home.

Valentine’s Activities at Gateway

Our gift-wrapping angels will be set up right next to the info desk to wrap Valentine’s gifts in love. Choose from a range of cards and paper to surprise a secret crush, spoil the kids, or show your appreciation to a long-time partner. This loving service is available during trading hours from 12 – 14 February. With over hundreds of stores, there’s so much to choose from – jewellery, fragrances, lingerie, chocolates, gadgets, clothes, games, and more. For free wrapping, gifts purchased at Gateway must be valued at R350 or more.

Inspired gifting is Gateway’s gig and they will be sharing their best ways to say “I love you” on social media.
Cupid’s arrow has also struck the photobooth in front of the info Desk at Gateway. Shoppers are invited to pose with someone they love in the photobooth, share the pic on social media with the tag #LoveGateway, and stand a chance to win stunning his and hers fragrances from Emporio Armani. Set up from 4-14 February, a lucky draw will determine the winner, so perfect those partner poses and give it a snap.

Dining al fresco has always been a popular Durban trend, and Gateway is adding yet another reason to do so. There’s no better ventilation than being outdoors, in addition, all restaurants practise safe Covid-19 protocols so diners can be safe and relaxed. Over Valentine’s weekend, book a table at any of the Palm Court restaurants and catch two of Durban’s best live acts.

Between 4pm and 7pm on Saturday 13th February, versatile Pablo de Barros, the ‘human jukebox’ will be sharing his smooth sounds.
On Sunday 14th February, from 12 – 3pm, well-known favourite, John Ellis will be displaying his acoustic mastery on the Palm Court stage.
Ster Kinekor will be offering couples two tickets for the price of one, so you can snuggle in your bubble for a romantic night out.

Celebrate Valentine’s at Home

The past year has also sparked creative ways to do things at home – work, entertain, study, and exercise. Home can also be a fabulous place to celebrate Valentine’s Day and we’ve got everything at Gateway to help you make it special. Here are a few of our ideas:

• Take dating home. Dress up the table, play the tunes, prepare an exotic meal together – and see where it takes you.
• Play through the courses. Crown a winner in a games marathon over a 3-course take away family feast.
• Indulge yourself. Robe up and go full spa, or stock up on your favourites for quality screen time alone.
• Pack up a picnic. Choose everything light and portable, pop on the shades and natter for hours.

Whether you celebrate at home, or join us at the mall, Valentine’s is an occasion to express love in many different ways.
